The Iowa 1:1 Institute exists to:
  • Help the Midwest’s 1:1 districts learn from each other about innovative teaching, learning, and administrative practices that are occurring in their districts;
  • Build excitement and ‘buzz’ around 1:1 laptop computing initiatives in the Midwest; and
  • Help others who are interested in 1:1 computing learn more about how to get started and be successful.
The institute is open to anyone interested in 1:1 laptop computing initiatives in P-12 schools, whether they currently are working in such a program or just want to learn more.

If parent teacher conferences in your school are less than meaningful this session is for you. One of the most important influences in graduation, learning, and college readiness is the parent school partnership. See how one Iowa Middle School transformed the traditional parent teacher conference format to re-engage parents through virtual parent teacher conferences. The principal said, “We have to re-think parent teacher conferences all-together and Flip Grid has much promise to get through to those parents who we can’t get to parent teacher conferences any other way.” Learn from this school how you might also be able to bring some meaning back to your parent teacher conferences.

I am passionate about technology, student engagement, and school reform. My dissertation was around 1:1 laptop initiatives and whether or not college students believed the initiative better prepared them for college. I live in Ankeny with my wife and three children.
