The Iowa 1:1 Institute exists to:
  • Help the Midwest’s 1:1 districts learn from each other about innovative teaching, learning, and administrative practices that are occurring in their districts;
  • Build excitement and ‘buzz’ around 1:1 laptop computing initiatives in the Midwest; and
  • Help others who are interested in 1:1 computing learn more about how to get started and be successful.
The institute is open to anyone interested in 1:1 laptop computing initiatives in P-12 schools, whether they currently are working in such a program or just want to learn more.

Shawn McCusker has 25 years of experience as a middle and high school teacher in public, private and alternative schools. In 2006, he was recognized as a finalist for the Golden Apple Award for Excellence in Teaching. An innovator in the creation and organization of online learning communities he has led #sschat, #1to1techat and #engsschat on Twitter as well as serving a the organizer of EdCamp Chicago. He is an expert in both iPad and Chromebook integration in the classroom. His innovative lessons and student products have been shared nationwide and have been featured in The Journal, Educational Leadership and the Huffington Post. In 2016 he was named a Top Trailblazing Educator on Twitter by eSchoolNews.
An inspiring speaker, he has keynoted at conferences across the US. Shawn is currently an Associate Director of Professional Learning for Digital Promise. His column \"The Tech Savvy Classroom\" is featured in Digital Learning Magazine.
